In 1998, there were eleven of us in that night class at Ryerson – nine women, two men, and a room thick with stories itching to be told but held hostage by years of polite silence.
The mind at ten is uncluttered. The woman’s real name is Marilyn. Passed several years back. My brother and I would place five cents down for a Saturday triple bill of horror flicks that summer at the LeRose Theatre in hopes she would be there. Sit across the aisle and spy on her. So innocent and human. Boys and girls fun. Occasionally, she’d smile back. A Jesus moment.
Good stories are about small moments. The ones we fail to acknowledge. I keep a pad open and ready,
Forever us!
There’s a purity to it. Something you feel in later stages of life.
Bi cheers

Rich memories. We have such emotions at that age.
Oh Mr. King. You are re-igniting our
Passions for Life. Thank you for this. Can’t believe I get to know you and Kris.
Having passed through that stage of life, I related to the wild mix of shyness, tenderness, and wildness emanating from your story. Thank you Bill 👍
You filled up my heart today.
Thank you. My eyes are leaking and your talented penmanship has left indelible ink on my heart. Love from the UK.
This: "...file it under "fiction" because that’s what we do when the truth feels too tender to expose."
Truth. I wish that I'd written that line.
This story was as richly nostalgic, and as profoundly satisfying, as my Grandma's Walnut Cake.
So much of Life consists of loss - in one way or another.
Oh my, this is beautiful. Those rare eternal moments in life that end up giving meaning to it all. I belong to your tribe. Thanks so much.
What wonders there are in the world. And this is one of them. Love every bit of it.
You describe my experience as a young girl. Appreciate you
