As an almost lifelong Atheist, I too mourn any man with power who still makes room for the downtrodden, poor, sick and non believers alike. He was light years ahead of most in the Catholic hierarchy in his views on controversial issues, and that's good. Hopefully it will continue. RIP

"I don’t claim to know what waits beyond this moment."

Those of us familiar with the Opus Dei cult have a good idea of what waits. Francis was the only one standing in the way of Opus Dei gaining more power and they've been waiting patiently for this moment. It's not far fetched to conclude that they'll have a hand in the election of the next Pope who, most likely, will be even more ultra-conservative than John Paul was. They've worked hand in hand with the orange convict to take over the judiciary in order to successfully encode rightwing Vatican theology into our system of laws.

It's no coincidence that the Robert's Extreme Court is populated with Opus Dei adherents. Thomas, Alito, Kavanaugh, Roberts are members with Barrett being a member of the female version, the Knights of Malta. I suspect Gorsuch is a closet member. The list of gop members who also belong to Opus Dei is long. The late Scalia was a member and Bill Barr is one of its leaders as well as Newt Gingrich.

Research Opus Dei member Leonard Leo in order to begin to understand the scope of Opus Dei's influence in our national politics. The cult was on the decline due to Pope Francis efforts until the convict was elected at which point they began a rapid recovery by moving their operation from Spain to the U.S.
