I appreciate your input. At this moment, the world is under siege by Trump and antisemitism, given the green light by the far right. There's no place left or right for such. Music is our meeting place, where Gershwin and Kendrick Lamar share a table.

I agree that music offers the clearest face of humanity. I disagree that music is the cure for mankind’s evils.

In the six months or so that I’ve been reading Sound and Reason, you have exclusively characterized evil as something to be feared and loathed from the political right. I would like to see some balance, since evil exists across the political spectrum. The grotesque antisemitism on display at the recent Glastonbury music festival is a glaring example. If music is the cure for evil, it has yet to cure Glastonbury.

Lyrics can take a side, but music cannot, which is part of why it offers the clearest view of humanity. Politicizing music can only diminish it.

In my long journey from leftism to wherever it is I am now, I have kept all my great musical loves while adding new ones, aided it must be said by reading Sound and Reason. (I don’t know what my paid subscriber status is now. I thought I had unsubscribed after a succession of political posts greatly annoyed me, but I still receive emails.)

I wish you continued success in your musical writings. Please consider more balance on the political side.

Thank you.
